Maarten Van Knippenberg
Partner, Belfort Law
Maarten Van Knippenberg is a Partner at Belfort Law, where he advises organizations on internal investigations, regulatory exposure and complex legal risk matters. His work focuses on fraud, misconduct, whistleblowing and the legal framework surrounding internal investigations, including the application of the Belgian Private Investigation Act.
He combines legal expertise with years of forensic experience. Maarten regularly supports boards, compliance teams and legal departments in sensitive situations that require controlled handling and clear positioning. He also supports law firms with sensitive pre-litigation advice on internal investigations.
He holds a Master of Laws, a Master of Business Law and a Master of Diplomacy. Maarten is a Registered Fraud Auditor (IFA) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and serves on the Board of the Belgian Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
He delivers training for FEBELFIN ACADEMY on the Private Investigation Act and whistleblower management.

Jacob Mareen
Partner
Jacob Mareen is founding Partner at Belfort Advisory. He works with organizations building and maturing cyber security and insider risk programs, combining governance design, regulatory alignment, and practical operationalization to make risk structured, boardable, and defensible.
His work focuses on the full scope of insider risk, from program assessment and governance frameworks to the intersection with legal defensibility and regulatory requirements. Jacob founded Belfort Advisory together with Maarten Van Knippenberg to bring technical risk management and legal precision together in one coordinated practice.
